Vijayapura: With the Vijayapura City Corporation election to be held soon, All India Majlise Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) to contest in the Corporation election for the first time after the upgradation of City Municipal Council to City Corporation.
The party which has opened its account by winning two seats in Town Municipal Council of Kolhar Taluk, is hoping to make its presence felt in the Corporation also.
“We have decided to field our candidates in all the 35 wards of the Corporation. However if we fail to get candidates in some wards, we will make sure to contest in as many wards as possible,” said the District President Allabaksh Bijapur.
Admitting that the party presently has no much base in Vijayapura City, he however claimed that it has a good number of supporters who will vote for the candidates in Vijayapura City.
Claiming that the party will win at least five seats, he said that the party is ready to offer ticket to non-Muslims candidates if anybody is ready to seek a ticket.
“No doubt MIM is largely supported by the Muslims but it does not mean that non-Muslims do not support our party. We will be happy to offer ticket to any non-Muslim potential candidates where we do not get Muslims candidates such as in SC/ST reserved wards,” he said.
Asserting that they consider all major parties including the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress as their political rivals, Bijapur said that both national parties have only cheated the people and used them as vote banks.
“For us, both parties are two faces of the same coin, and therefore we consider them as our political rivals. We will fight them both tooth and nail in the coming polls,” he said.
Considering the coming Corporation elections as their big challenge to make a mark in the politics of the District, Bijapur said that they have already started preparing for the polls.
“Those who are interested in contesting the election on our party ticket, can always visit our office. Based on the calibre of the aspirant, the party will offer ticket,” he said.
