Vijayapura: While numerous elected representatives do not show interest in providing better amenities to localities of living people, here is a former elected representative who is making efforts to improve the graveyards and crematoriums.
Premanand Biradar, a Former City Corporator who not only strives to plant saplings at the graveyards and improve facilities but also ensures that water is provided to the plants to see them grow.
Interestingly, he is doing the job in the graveyards of not only in his ward but in other wards also. He has been planting saplings and watering them in the graveyards of Hindus and Muslims as well.
Recently, he took up the job of watering the plants of the graveyard of Muslims community in Vijayapura city where he has hired a water tanker and supplied 25 trips of tankers by spending his own money. What is interesting is that the graveyard does not even fall under his ward.
He said that during one of his visits, he noticed that the several plants are getting dried due to lack of water.
After which, he contacted the caretakers of the graveyard and began watering the plants with their permission
“Politics is ok, but certain things you do, not to gain votes, but to have some sense of satisfaction”, he said.
Biradar who got elected on JD(S) ticket and now identifies with the BJP, believes that political party is merely to contest elections.
Having planted over 400 saplings and watering the plants, he said that he has selected Muslim and Hindu graveyard to plant and water the saplings.
“I have identified at least six more graveyards of Hindus and Muslims where I have decided to plant saplings and water them. I am in touch with the members of the graveyard committee to take their permission before going ahead with my work”, Biradar said.
Asserting that often people neglect graveyards and try to develop only their residential areas, Biradar said that it is the responsibility of the people to respect their dead ones as ultimately, people will have to become one with the soil regardless of their religion.
Biradar has also been appealing to the people to keep the graveyards clean and support him in maintaining greenery at the last destination of humans.
