
Vijayapura: Deputy Commissioner, P. Sunil Kumar has directed the Veterinary Doctors to ensure that the prevention of cow slaughter act must be implemented properly and also in a way that it neither hurts the sentiments of others nor it sends a wrong message to the society.
Speaking after inaugurating a technical session organized for veterinary doctors of the district here on Friday, he made it clear that while implementing the Act, there should not be any instance of creating disharmony in the society.
“ The work should be done within the constitutional framework and in a transparent manner. Do not heed to any rumors also while discharging your duties. Discharge your duties in a way that brings respect and dignity for your profession”, he said.
On the occasion, he congratulated the officials of the Animal Husbandry Department for securing the sixth position in the State conducting the highest number of artificial insemination in the district even under an acute shortage of staff.
Sunil Kumar said that he would ask Zilla Panchayat to grant more funds under the 15th Finance Plan to the Department of Animal Husbandry for improving basic facilities.
Speaking on the occasion, veterinary expert Girish Patil said that the country has earned revenue of Rs. 7.2 lakh crore from dairy and meat industry, of which, Rs. 2.2 lakh crore has come only from the meat industry.
“ Several changes have taken place in the meat industry for bringing higher revenue by giving special emphasis on it”, he said.
Earlier, Deputy Director of the Department, Pranesh Jagirdar said that the district has around 14 lakh cattle heads. With regard to staff, he said that while 576 are the sanctioned posts, the district presently has only 263 working staff which is less than fifty percent of the required staff.
