Belagavi: A meeting involving CMs of Mahadayi Basin states, which was called off at the last minute earlier will be held soon, informed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday.

The CM, making a statement before both the houses, stated that the state is interested in solving the Mahadayi water dispute through dialogues involving both Goa and Maharashtra. Siddaramaiah listed out the efforts that are being taken by the state government. He also said that the state is taking every step to ensure it gets its rightful share of water.

“Karnataka is only demanding Mahadayi water which is going waste into the Arabian Sea. The Prime Minster has been made aware about the drought situation in the region and also the agitations that are going on for more than a year,” said Siddaramaiah.

Citing water scarcity as a reason, Goa has been opposing the Mahadayi water project which aims diversion of 7.56 tms feet water from the tributaries Kalasa and Banduri. Both these tributaries take birth in Karnataka and later join Mahadayi.
