Belagavi: Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar sharply responded to former BJP MLA Sanjay Patil’s statement suggesting that she should have an extra drink to get a good night’s sleep.
During a party workers’ meeting, Patil claimed that women’s support for the BJP is increasing in Karnataka, which would cause concern for Hebbalkar.
“Hebbalkar will not rest easy seeing the growing support of women for the BJP in Belagavi. It will also be challenging for her to see Ramesh Jarkiholi campaigning in Belagavi Lok Sabha segment. She may need a sleeping pill or an extra drink to sleep well,” Patil stated.
Hebbalkar stated Patil’s statement as reflection of the BJP’s mindset and an insult to the women’s community and to all Lingayats.
Hebbalkar’s son, Mrinal Hebbalkar, is contesting against former CM Jagadish Shettar in the Belagavi Lok Sabha constituency.
The former BJP MLA’s remarks have sparked a major controversy, Hebbalkar stating that the statement reflects the BJP’s attitude towards women, a party that advocates for saving girl children, promoting girls’ education, and chants Jai Sri Ram.
