Belegavi: Badal Ankalagi is the place located around 30kms away from city, where debt ridden sugarcane farmer Gurunath Chapgaon committed suicide recently. Agitating over it, the BJP has decided to organize a ‘Padayatra’ from Badal Ankalagi village to Suvarna Vidhana Soudha (SVS).
Former CM B S Yeddyurappa will lead ‘Padayatra’ on 28th June.
Addressing the media, Belagavi MP Suresh Angadi said Yeddyurappa will be accompanied by state BJP president Pralhad Joshi, opposition leader Jagadish Shettar, former union minister Babagouda Patil, other BJP leaders and party workers.
He further blamed the district in-charge minister Satish Jarkiholi and DC N Jayaram to the task for not showing courtesy of meeting family members of deceased farmer and express condolence. “DC visited village after I wrote him letter and announced Rs 1 lakh compensation”, he said and demanded Rs 20 lakh compensation to the farmer’s family.
Government had announced Rs 2,650 price to per tonne sugarcane in 2013-14, including Rs 150 support price of the government. But even after two years, government failed to clear the announced price to farmers from factories. Factories are denying to pay announced price despite court order. In such situation, government had to take a call by taking steps to clear dues of farmers, which not happened. He termed it’s a failure of the government.
MLA Sanjay Patil, district BJP president Iranna Kadadi, former minister Shashikant Naik were present.
