Belagavi: The Belagavi Police on Tuesday evening arrested two persons, including a doctor in connection to murder of a girl working as a nurse, allegdly to avoid marriage.

The arrested are Sunil Vasudev Chauhan, a BHMS doctor from Ahmed Nagar and his brother Sanjay Vasudev Chauhan.

The dead body of the victim, Punam Balasaheb Brahmani (22), a native of Shakti Nagar, Ahmadnagar in Maharashtra and a nurse by profession was found by the police in Khanapur limits under Astoli bridge on March 15 and a case was registered under 174(c) unnatural death.

However, based on the statement of her parents who suspected that she had been murdered, the police registered a case under Sec 302, 201 of Indian Penal Code and investigated the case.

Investigations revealed that Sunil and his brother had coerced Punam to undertake a trip to Goa but they pushed her off the bridge, thereby killing her.

It is gathered that Punam and Sunil were in a relationship and she was pressuring him to marry her. Sunil, on the other hand didn’t want to marry her and hence laid a plot to murder.
