Dharwad: Deputy Director S B Bommanahalli has said the district now had better ambience and infrastructure for the promotion of sports. The youth should make use of these and bring laurels in the state, national and international levels, he added.

Presiding over the inauguration of National Sports Day programme at the R N Shetty District Stadium in Dharwad, the DC said the government was observing Sports Day to foster a sports spirit and promote the love for sports among the youth.

Inaugurating the programme, Zilla Panchayat President Chaitra Shirur said youngsters, particularly those from rural areas, had benefited from various schemes introduced by the state government.

“Compared to earlier days, the government help for sports has multiplied. Different schemes for the promotion of sports by the departments of public instruction and sports has helped develop sports infrastructure in villages”, she said.

North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) Chairman Sadanand Danganavar, Zilla Panchayat member Ratna Patil, Department of Information and Public Relations Senior Assistant Director Manjunath Dollin and others spoke.
