Dharwad: The State Police Complaints Authority Chairman Justice A S Pachhapure has said a proposal had been sent to the government requesting to provide a separate investigating team for the authority, involving five police officials and staff.

Speaking at an awareness programme about the authority and its functions at Dharwad Bar Association on Friday, Pachapure said, “Investigating truth is always a tough job. One has to review all evidences and find out the right or wrong. The Authority needs a separate investigating team for dealing with complaints on police staff.

While normal complaints on police personnel are handled by district level body, the serious cases are dealt by state level body of the Authority. The deputy commissioner will head the district body and superintendent of police will act as member secretary. Advocates need to convince people who come to file complaint,” he said.

Member of the Authority M R Kambale said the authorities had toured 13 districts in 3 months to create awareness about the authority.

Deputy Commissioner S B Bommanahalli, SP G Sangeeta responded to the queries raised by lawyers.

Dharwad Bar Association President R U Bellakki presided over the programme.

District Principal and Sessions Judge Ramachandra D. Huddar and other dignitaries were present.
