Dharwad: Members of Dharwad District SC/ST Pourakarmikara-Naukarara Sangha held a protest against the authorities of Karnataka University Dharwad (KUD) here on Wednesday demanding consolidated salary for the Safai Karmacharis.

The protesters wrote letters in blood addressed to the government and demanded direction to the University to release consolidated salary for Safai Karmacharis working in university campus since years.

The protesters led by Sangha President Vijay Guntral alleged that KUD authorities had been following step motherly attitude towards Dalit Pourkarmikas working in the University campus by denying them consolidated salary.

These Dalit Pourkarmikas have been working in University campus for more than 25 years but were not treated on par with other workers, the protesters alleged.

The tender process followed by the University in this regard was unconstitutional. A letter each had been written in blood addressed to higher education minister and district in-charge minister in this regard, they said.
