Dharwad: The doctors of the SDM Narayan Heart Centre, Dharwad performed a free Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) surgery on a senior citizen and helped the patient who had no relatives, to come out of a life-threatening situation.
Briefing media persons, Cardiologist Dr. Shanmukh Hiremath said that the patient, 65-year-old Anil Kamat was staying at Vivekanand old-age home at Navanagar and did not have any relatives.
After primary health investigations, Kamat was diagnosed with heart-related problem and he approached the SDM for further investigation. Based on his medical report, the doctors performed a CABG and he has recovered.
He said after performing eco-cardiography and coronary angiogram, three blocks in advanced stages were found (90% to 95%). Apart from this, his heart was very weak and the blood supplying capacity to rest of the body was hardly 40%. Hence, conducting surgery on him was a challenging task for the doctors, he said.
The doctors advised for Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting surgery, but the patient was not financially strong to bear the surgery cost. Hence, the charity message was uploaded on Whatsapp to generate resources for the surgery and this move yielded good results, he said.
‘Several friends of mine staying abroad, the administration of the SDM Narayan Heart Centre and the students of the SDM Hospital also offered help. The surgery conducted on March 27 was successful. The SDM Administrative Board also helped by subsidizing the amount from Rs. 4 lakh to Rs. 2.30 lakh’, he added.
Anil is recovering well, he will be given free medicines on his return, he added.
Anil Kamat thanked all the donors who helped for his surgery.
