Dharwad: The sixth edition of the “Mango Mela” organised by the Karnataka State Mango Development Board and Horticulture Department would begin in the twin cities from May 5. This is for the first time, the mango exhibition-cum-sale would be held in Dharwad and Hubballi for five days.
Informing this to media, ZP CEO R Snehal said that this annual event being organised since the last five years had received good response from both the growers and customers. Hence, Mango Mela would be organised in Dharwad during the first week of May, she said.
The mela would be held for five days this time and the venue would be in the premises of Horticulture Department and Kalabhavan in Dharwad and Gokul Garden in Hubballi.
Those Mango growers who allow the fruits to ripen naturally would be allowed to set up their stalls. Last year, nearly 80 stalls were put up and this year, the organisers expect the stall numbers to double, she said.
More than 127 mango varieties and other fruits grown in North Karnataka would be displayed and are also available for the consumers for purchase, which include Raspuri, Eshadi, Mallika, Kesar, Sindhu, Ratna and Alphonso. Information on mango cultivation, by-products of the fruit are also available at the Mela.
