Depression can be cured through counselling: Dist Judge

Dharwad: Depression arising due to any kind of mental illness can be cured with counselling and medication for the nerve disorders, said District Principal and Sessions Judge V Shreeshanand.

Speaking after inaugurating a programme on the occasion of World Health Day here at DIMHANS on Friday, the judge said early detection and treatment for depression was the need of the hour in this modern world filled with electronic gadgets among others. Reasons for a person undergoing depression are many. One should develop positive attitude and face challenges sportively in order to live a stressfree life, he added.

DIMHANS Medical Superintendent Dr. Srinivas Kosagi said around 35 crore people across the world suffer from depression, which include 5 crores in India. “We can find one percent population suffering from depression in all age groups”, he said.

District Health Officer Dr. R M Doddamani presided over.

World Health Organization representative Dr. Siddalingaiah, Bar Association president V D Kamareddy, DC Dr. B S Bommanahalli and others were present.
