Belagavi: Organ donation of brain dead man saves six lives

Belagavi: A 51-year-old man identified as Umesh B. Dandagi from the City has provided a new lease of life to six patients.

As per organ donation protocols, officials from Jeevasarthakathe, a government body which oversees cadaver organ donation in the State initiated the process for organ donation and took consent in writing from the family members for the same. The recipients were selected as per the waiting list.

Dandagi’s heart, kidneys, and liver were donated. The patients to whom the organs were donated to are from hospitals in Belagavi, Dharwad, Hubballi and Bengaluru, respectively. His corneas and skin were donated to the eye and skin banks, respectively.

Dandagi suffered a head injury after an accidental fall on March 8, and was declared brain dead on March 16.
