Belagavi: Two youth were hacked to death while they were playing a cricket game at Shindolli Village in Belagavi District on the night of Sunday December 25.
The deceased have been identified as Basavaraj Maruthi Belgaonkar (24) and Girish Yellappa Nagunnavar (24). Basavaraj died on the spot when unidentified persons attacked the youth while playing cricket on Sunday. Girish was being treated in the Intensive Care Unit of the District Hospital but succumbed to his injuries at night.
A light hop pitch cricket tournament had been organised in the village for the past one week. The youth had gone out after playing cricket on Sunday night. Some young men came and hit them. The exact reason for the murder is yet to be ascertained.
DCP Ravindra Gadadi and other police personnel visited the spot. Marihal Police are camping at the spot. An atmosphere of tension has been created in the village.
