Another scam unearthed? Shettar alleges Rs 400 cr scam in Malaprabha project

Bengaluru: In a fresh allegation, once again relating to a scam, BJP leader Jagadish Shettar on Friday alleged that Rs 400 crore scam is brewing in the Malaprabha canal modernization work.

Speaking to mediapersons in Bengaluru, Shettar told that, Karnataka Neeravari Nigam which functions under water resources department lead by Minister M B Patil is implementing package system instaed of piece contract system to favour one contractor. The piece contract for Rs 40 crore is cancelled and package contract worth Rs 964.53 crore has been announced for the modernization of canal and distributory system, only to help one contractor named Bhajantri.

Though the tendering process is still on, the contractor has started his work on the ground, alleged Shettar.

There will be modernization of left and right canals along with remodeling of distributory and redistributory canals in the Malaprabha canal work. This irrigation project is mainly confined to Dharwad district.

The BJP leader urged the Chief Minister to look into the issue and also order an inquiry.
