London: In backdrop of the General Assembly elections of State being announced to be held on May 10, Sagarottara Kannadigaru was founded during the COVID pandemic, to bring NRI Kannadigas and other related institutions to a common place to discuss and address the concerns raised by the Sagarottara Kannadigaru.
Now registered in the UK under CIC (Community Interest Company) to represent the overseas Kannadigas throughout the world, through a short notice has requested the Chief Electoral Officer of the State to facilitate exercising the voting rights for NRKs (NRI Kannadigas) from their respective residing countries either by postal voting system or by opening a polling booth in the Indian Embassy at the respective countries.
In a memorandum to the Chief Electoral Officer, Organisation Founder and Joint Secretary, Saudi Arabia, Ravi Mahadeva has stated that as Election Commission is flag bearer and the responsible body for democratic reforms, the Sagarottara Kannadigaru truly appreciates its efforts to strengthen democratic process.
“And we also would be happy to take part in the process of strengthening democracy of the country, development of the country by casting our votes. Though we live abroad we are connected with the Indian roots which make us feel proud as we carry the heritage and culture of the country across the globe, he stated.
He added, “approximately 6 million eligible Indian voters are living abroad, which is a considerable and change making number for the democracy of the country in which 5 lakhs of Kannadigas are eligible for voting, in view of this we demandfully request on behalf of NRI Kannadigas to look into this matter seriously and do the needful.”
