Chennai: A star Tortoise, all of two stands out in the creep that lives in Vandalur Zoo.

This female tortoise is faster than her fellow beings and seems to be comfortable on her ‘feet’.

On Tuesday, when Vandalur Zoo officials spotted her, the story was different. A leg injury demanded an urgent amputation. However, after the surgery, she was fitted with wheels, which makes her stand apart and onlookers say that with the special wheels on, she is faster than even a hare.

“In an enclosure, four adult tortoises attacked the little one and a bite from a large tortoise on her leg caused the trouble,” said an officials adding that the little star tortoise was in pain to the extent that she could hardly reach to the food served to all the tortoises on common plate.

The vets were called in and the preparation for an urgent amputation was made. Soon after the surgery, the tortoise was fitted with tiny light wheels in the front which ensures mobility. The wheels were fixed on to the underside of the shell with a special resin and were then connected to a lightweight metal rod.

Now, with the new prosthetic in place, she is faster than her counterparts!
