In Moyna, East Midnapore, the discovery of an 18-year-old’s body hanging at a paan shop near his home has ignited controversy, with his family alleging foul play and pointing fingers at the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) party. Dinbandhu Midya’s mother, Henarani Midya, claimed that her son, a BJP worker, was murdered by TMC members.
According to Dinbandhu’s family, he left home on Thursday evening but failed to return, prompting a search by his relatives. His body was eventually found hanging at 11 pm near his residence, with a portion of his torn dhoti used as the ligature. Interestingly, his feet were touching the ground, and there were signs of blood on his knees.
The Calcutta High Court intervened on Friday, rejecting a plea to conduct the autopsy at a Centre-run hospital. Instead, Justice Jay Sengupta directed the postmortem to be conducted at a state-run hospital with videography. The court also ordered the preservation of the body for two days and scheduled a hearing for Monday to address the petitioner’s allegations.
Henarani Midya expressed anguish over her son’s demise, alleging that TMC workers had targeted their family due to their support for the BJP. She recounted Dinbandhu’s last communication, stating he planned to return home for dinner before he went missing. Police, following the signal of his mobile phone tower, discovered his body at the paan shop.
However, TMC functionaries dismissed these accusations, denying any involvement in Dinbandhu’s death. The incident has left the community reeling and raised questions about political violence in the region.
