Jalpaiguri: In a tragic incident in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district, a 36-year-old man and his eight-year-old son lost their lives after their scooter was struck by a truck. The horrifying sequence of events unfolded on National Highway 31 in the Dus Dargah area as the family was returning home to Jalpaiguri town after attending a birthday party on Friday night.
The man’s wife, who was also on the scooter, sustained critical injuries in the accident. According to an officer from Kotwali police station, a speeding truck collided with the scooter, causing the family to fall onto the highway. Subsequently, several vehicles ran over the father-son duo.
Prompted by the victims’ cries, locals rushed them to Jalpaiguri Medical College and Hospital. Tragically, doctors declared the man and his son dead upon arrival. The injured woman was transferred to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital in Siliguri for more advanced medical care.
Authorities suspect that the incident may have been exacerbated by foggy conditions. In response to the tragedy, residents organized a demonstration on Saturday, urging authorities to install lights in the area for improved visibility and safety.
