New Delhi: The Union Budget 2020 has been presented by India’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at the Lok Sabha on Saturday, February 1.
This is the second budget presented under the Narendra Modi-led NDA government after it returned to power by winning the general elections held in May 2019.
As per tradition, Sitharaman first met with Indian President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan before heading to Parliament to present the Union Budget. The Finance Minister, along with other ministry officials, posed with the Budget documents wrapped in a ‘Bahi Kata’ or ceremonial red silk cloth. It may be recalled that Finance Ministers before Sitharaman had used a briefcase for the same purpose.
Sitharaman began her speech in Parliament at precisely 11 am. The presentation is expected to last between 90 – 120 minutes.
