New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has asked Madhya Pradesh Governor Ram Naresh Yadav an accused in Vyapam scam to step down, sources told Headlines Today on Wednesday.

The Special Task Force (STF) of MP Police had on Tuesday registered a case against Yadav in connection with the alleged irregularities in recruitment of forest guards under the Prevention of Corruption Act and various sections of Indian Penal Code, including Section 420 (cheating).

Yadav had allegedly recommended names of five candidates for recruitment as forest guards to some top officials of Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB), which conducted the test. Some of the recommended candidates had reportedly cracked the examination.

Even as the Opposition has been demanding resignation of MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan over the scam, the Congress stepped up its attack on the state government and the Governor following the FIR against the latter.

Congress workers held a protest outside the Raj Bhavan in Bhopal on Tuesday demanding the Governor’s resignation following the FIR against him. The party has been demanding CBI probe into the MPPEB scam.

The massive MPPEB admission and recruitment scandal, or Vyapam scam, allegedly involves many politicians and senior officials. Earlier, the officer on special duty to the governor, Dhanraj Yadav, was arrested in connection with MPPEB’s Pre-Medical Test. His son Shailesh Yadav’s name had also cropped up during the investigation when an accused claimed that he was paid money for recruitment of contractual teachers.
