Uttarkashi: In a significant update on the rescue efforts at the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarkashi, authorities have declared that the operations have entered the final stages, with an assurance that the 41 trapped workers will be reached today.
The workers have been trapped since November 12th when the under-construction tunnel from Silkyara to Barkot became blocked by debris in a 60-meter stretch on the Silkyara side.

Rescue teams are reportedly just 12 meters away from the trapped group, raising hopes for a successful conclusion to the operation. Ambulances are on standby, and a special ward at a local health center has been prepared to provide immediate medical attention upon the workers’ extraction.
Despite earlier projections that the breakthrough would occur this morning, the overnight drilling efforts faced an unexpected hurdle when encountering iron rods in the debris. As a result, Bhaskar Khulbe, former advisor to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), estimated that it would take an additional 12 to 14 hours to complete the drilling and reach the trapped workers.
The situation remains fluid, and authorities are working diligently to overcome challenges and ensure the safe and timely rescue of the workers. The entire nation watches with bated breath as the final stages of this complex rescue operation unfold in Uttarkashi.
