Lucknow: A police jeep collided here on Saturday night while securing the route for Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath‘s cavalcade, injuring at least 15 people, including five police officers, according to officials.
Whether the chief minister was in the convoy or not during its return the journey from the airport to Arjunganj was not immediately apparent.
Police sources claim that the speeding jeep hit two vehicle parked on the other side of the road while trying to avoid an animal that suddenly appeared in front of it.
According to them, the cavalcade was at least a kilometer behind the local police’s jeep.
“On Saturday night, a police jeep that was leading the chief minister’s convoy had an accident in the Arjunganj market area. PTI was informed by Lucknow Police Commissioner S B Shiradkar that 15 people had been injured.
Five police officers in the police jeep and ten people in the two other cars it hit were among the injured. For medical care, those injured have been taken to a hospital immediately.
Akhilesh Yadav, the president of the Samajwadi Party, said Uttar Pradesh’s problem with stray cattle has turned into a “dangerous truth”.
“The issue of stray animals not being taken seriously led to an accident today involving the chief minister’s own convoy. There have been numerous injuries. “It’s sad and worrying,” he wrote in a post on x in Hindi.
“One of Uttar Pradesh’s dangerous truths is the issue of stray animals. The lives of these people are at stake. This incident should serve as a lesson to the BJP, he said.
