Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will be filing his nomination from Raebareli today, Prime Minister Modi took a swipe at him for filing the nomination from the Congress stronghold. He attributed Rahul’s decision to the fearing a loss in Kerala’s Wayanad.

Addressing a poll rally in West Bengal, Modi dared Rahul to face the election in Amethi and not “run or be scared.”

Modi reiterated, Gandhi had been had been searching for a safe seat for himself after voting in Wayanad. Modi said that he had said that he (Rahul Gandhi) will search for another seat after election in Wayanad. He will lose in Wayanad. He is so scared to run from Amethi and that is why he decided to contest from Rae Bareli. He or Congress party used to say “Daro Mat”. Today I also ask them, “Daro Mat, Bhago Mat”.

He also criticized former AICC chief Sonia Gandhi vacating Rae Bareli, choosing to reaching Parliament via Rajya Sabha.

“I had already said in the parliament that their (Congress) biggest leader will not dare to fight elections and she will run away. She ran away to Rajasthan and came to the Rajya Sabha,” he added.

After a long suspense, the Congress today announced that Rahul Gandhi will contest the Lok Sabha elections from Rae Bareli. Rahul Gandhi’s loyalist, Kishori Lal Sharma will contest from Amethi.

Rahul Gandhi made his debut in electoral politics in 2004 from Amethi, a constituency long associated with his family’s legacy. Securing victories in 2004, 2009, and 2014, he maintained a stronghold on the seat. However, in 2019, Smriti Irani shattered this dominance by defeating Gandhi in the UP constituency.

The late PM Rajiv Gandhi, Rahul’s father, served as Amethi’s MP from 1981 until his untimely demise in 1991. Additionally, Sonia Gandhi also represented the constituency in the Lok Sabha in 1999.
