Lucknow: A case was registered against BJP leader Dayashankar Singh late on Wednesday night for his abusive statement against Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati, police said.

The case was registered at the Hazratganj police station by Mewa Lal Gautam who said the now-sacked BJP state Vice-President’s statement had violated the honour of a Dalit woman and tried to foment trouble and tension between two communities. The police lodged the FIR against Singh under Sections 153-A, 504 and 509 of the IPC (Indian Penal Code) and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Police said appropriate action would be taken after investigating the charges.

The complainant also submitted a compact disc containing a clipping of the news conference of the BJP leader in Mau on Tuesday.

The BSP, meanwhile, threatened a statewide agitation against the BJP on Thursday following which police presence around the BJP offices in the state was strengthened. The district administration in Lucknow asked BSP leaders to hold their demonstration at the designated ‘dharna sthal’ in the state capital and not in Hazratganj where the BJP state headquarters is located.

Singh, at a press conference in the Mau district of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, had said that the BSP chief was giving party tickets based on the amount of money paid to her and that even a prostitute was better than her.

BJP suspends Daya Shankar Singh for six years

The BJP on Wednesday suspended Uttar Pradesh unit Vice-President Daya Shankar Singh for six years following his alleged obscene comments on Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati. The decision to suspend Singh was taken by BJP president Amit Shah, informed sources said. Earlier, he was sacked from all party posts. Before coming to the decision to suspend Singh, Shah discussed the matter with state party leaders, including state party chief Keshav Prasad Maurya.

“BJP does not approve such remarks and we strongly condemn it. This was the reason we have removed Singh from all party posts with immediate effect,” Maurya told the reporters.
