Tributes to police officers who were killed by Veerappan

Chamrajnagar: Tributes were paid to the police officers and personnel who fell victim to Veerappan’s attack on August 14, 1992, in the Minyam forest area of the Malemahadeshwara Wildlife Sanctuary, located in Chamarajanagar district.

Family members of the officer and staff who lost their lives to Veerappan’s gunfire gathered at the memorial site in the Meenyam forest of Chamarajanagar district. They solemnly bowed before the portraits of the departed, while also bestowing honor upon the families of those who had succumbed to the attack.

The attack orchestrated by Veerappan claimed the lives of Superintendent of Police T. Harikrishna, PSI Shakeel Ahmed, ASI Somappa, and personnel CM Kalappa, Sundar, K. M. Appachchu. Many others sustained injuries during this tragic event.

As we mark 31 years since the incident transpired on August 14, a commemorative event was held. Among the attendees were DySP Somegowda, Ramapura Police Station Inspector Santosh Kashyap, Sub Inspector S. Radha, as well as family members of the martyrs, including Nachappa, the brother of Appachchu, Sharada, the elder sister of Sundar, Kalappa’s wife and family. Additionally, retired Superintendent of Police Umesh and Tiger Ashok Kumar’s admirers, including Mysuru Manju, joined the gathering to pay their respects.
