Update:

New Delhi: Three Indian youths, who were allegedly physically tortured by their employer in Saudi Arabia, will return to India within a week, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said on Thursday.

“We reported this to Saudi Police. We are in touch with Indian workers. They will be back in India within a week,” Sushma Swaraj tweeted.

On Wednesday, the minister stated that India had approached the Saudi police and got the youths police protection.

According to reports, the three youths, hailing from Haripad in Kerala’s Alappuzha district, were taken to Saudi Arabia by a placement agency on false job promises.

A video recorded by one of the youths and circulating on WhatsApp shows their Saudi employer beating them with a wooden plank.

Thiruvananthapuram: A video showing the brutality of a Saudi employer as he beats his employees belonging to Kerala has evoked strong reactions in Kerala.

The video and the brutality came to light when the men, belonging to a town called Haripad in North Kerala, forwarded it to their family members as a plea for help.

The video shows very clearly, the Saudi man chasing the three men with a wooden club in hand, and beating them up. The three were promised jobs in Yemen as electricians. But they were duped and taken to Abha in Saudi Arabia, where they were forced to work in a brick manufacturing company.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandi today said the state authorities have got in touch with the Indian embassy and the associations of Keralites in Saudi Arabia. All efforts are being made to get the men back to India within two days, he added.

Many persons from Kerala go to middle-east with promises of jobs with the help of middlemen, which lays them open to trafficking.

The families said the men want to come back to India but lack the means as they are very poorly paid.
