Bareilly: Over a thousand litres of seized liquor kept in the storehouse of Bareilly’s Cantonment police station has disappeared and the local policemen have blame the rats for it.

Strangely, rats have also earlier been blamed for the diappearance of seized liquor in Bihar, narcotics in Jharkhand and currency notes in Assam. They were also held guilty of causing floods in Bihar!

‘Malkhana’ – storehouse for seized items – was opened on Wednesday, to bring out the body of a stray dog which had sneaked inside a few days ago and died. It was then found that the several gallons of country-made liquor that had been seized from illegal manufacturing units had vanished. Upon inquiring, the staff blamed rodents.

Abhinandan Singh, Superintendent of Police said that Cantonment police station head ‘muharrir’ (clerk), Naresh Pal, who was posted recently, opened the door of the ‘malkhana’ and found some liquor cans empty. He also saw rats near the seized liquor cans.

Singh, also added that an inquiry into the incident would be conducted.
