New Delhi: Congress leader and Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor is known for his extensive vocabulary. As much as his command over English hits headlines, it is obvious that the mistakes he does too would grab the attention of the nation.

Tharoor, on Monday ended up spelling Indira as ‘India’ in his tweet that also gave incorrect information and the netizens could not stop but troll the leader. Tharoor, through his tweet, wanted to tell people that massive crowd that came to attend PM’s Howdy Modi event during his recent visit to the US is not something that has never happened to any Prime Minister so far.
In the tweet, Tharoor posted a picture of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi at a public rally and captioned the photo, “Nehru & India Gandhi in the US in 1954. Look at the hugely enthusiastic spontaneous turnout of the American public, without any special PR campaign, NRI crowd management or hyped-up media publicity.”
It was journalist R Jagannathan, who identified the factual error and tweeted saying “This is Moscow, 1956. Totally arranged adulation.”
Close on the heels of the journalist correcting the MP, netizens began trolling Tharoor mercilessly.
However, Tharoor responded to the blunder soon and said ” I am told this picture (forwarded to me) probably is from a visit to the USSR and not the US. Even if so, it still doesn’t alter the message: the fact is that former PMs also enjoyed popularity abroad. When @narendramodi is honoured, @PMOIndia is honoured; respect is for India.”
