Textile gives maximum employment after agriculture: Modi

Varanasi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday arrived at his parliamentary constituency Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh on a two-day visit during which he will attend a string of events.

The textile sector generates maximum employment after agriculture, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said here Friday.

“After agriculture, if there is a sector generating maximum employment it is textiles,” said Modi who arrived here Friday on a two-day visit.

Speaking at an event, Modi said that Varanasi has “a very special place” in his heart.

This is Modi’s maiden visit to the city after becoming the prime minister.

Modi was received at Babatpur airport by UP Governor Ram Naik, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and senior officials.

During his sojourn, Modi will meet a group of intellectuals, garland the statue of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) founder Madan Mohan Malviya, lay the foundation stone of a Rs.200-crore textile designing institute and meet BJP workers.

The prime minister will also visit the ashram of Mata Anandmayi and adopt a village.
