Mumbai: The Tata Literature Live, a Mumbai literature festival was organized on Thursday November 14 at NCPA showcasing literary arts from across the globe.

Adults along with children enjoyed the event. The new age poetry by Martin Khizko was full of sarcasm, fun and a message along with renowned Sir Nichalos Hytner of National Theater London Director, who spoke about the history of National Theatre in London, the politics of theater in Europe and the greatest playwright the world has seen William Shakespeare.

He said, “Theater in London is only 20% state sponsored. It is the public that support the life of theater in our country. In Germany and France it is completely supported by the state. Hence, the differentiation between art and entertainment is big there and not so much in London.”

Durbar and Dynasty saw some debate between Tavleen Singh and Kumar Ketkar about Democracy and Dynasty.

Tavleen Singh claimed, “The seed of Dynasty was sown with Rajeev Gandhi becoming a Prime Minster. It has gone deep and is not threatening the foundation of democracy like never before.”

While Kumar Katekar insisted that Democracy and Dynasty are not necessarily antagonistic. “It gives a person an entry point yes, but they need not win based purely on their dynastic roots.”

The conversation continued with many laughs from the audience as the writers got more and more frank about the politics of our country, punctuated by the sociological and psychological understanding of our love for dynasty and need for democracy from the famous psychoanalyst, Sudhir Kakar.

The first day of the Tata Literature Live festival concluded successfully as the audience gears up to enjoy the second day on Friday November 15.

Workshops on how to write fiction by Tash Aw, how to make a child laugh by Philip Ardagh and recreate historical figures by John Zubrzycki was conducted on day one; whereas day two of the festival will have book launches such as Naresh Fernandes’ ‘A City Adrift’ and Shobha De’s ‘Never a Dull De’ will be launched tomorrow amongst others.
