Chennai Rains: Street Dog’s Struggle for Survival Goes Viral

Chennai: Amid the severe waterlogging in Chennai caused by heavy rain due to Cyclone Michaung, a poignant video has gone viral, capturing the struggle of a street dog fighting for its life. The video, shared by news agency ANI on X, shows the dog navigating through floodwaters to reach the opposite side of the road and reunite with its companion in the Arumbakkam area.

The heart-wrenching footage illustrates the dog’s tenacity as it uses its paws to swim through the flooded area, determined to find shelter and join another dog located at the roadside.

In addition to this video, another clip has surfaced showing citizens actively rescuing street dogs from the inundated streets. People are seen lifting the dogs from the flooded roads and placing them into a truck, presumably evacuating them to a safer location.

The impact of Cyclone Michaung has led to challenging conditions in Chennai, with citizens and animals alike facing the adverse effects of heavy rainfall and flooding. The city has witnessed various incidents, including the appearance of fish on waterlogged streets and even a crocodile escaping into a nearby lake.

The Greater Chennai Police have reported six deaths within their jurisdiction as a result of the inclement weather conditions, emphasizing the gravity of the situation and the need for collective efforts to address the challenges posed by the cyclonic storm.
