CHENNAI: City police have taken legal action against a 30-year-old individual for allegedly deceiving multiple women under the guise of marriage. Identified as R. Manikandan, residing in Kattupakkam, the suspect is known for his occupation as a professional bodybuilder and as the proprietor of a local gym. Additionally, Manikandan holds the prestigious title of Mr. World.
Manikandan entered matrimony with Kavitha back in 2019. Recently, Kavitha reported to authorities asserting that her spouse had been engaging in fraudulent activities targeting various women. According to sources, Manikandan had a previous encounter with the law in 2021 for purportedly assaulting a woman believed to be his girlfriend at the time. Subsequently, he was released on bail the following year with intervention from his wife.
In a recent development, Kavitha attempted to file a complaint against her husband earlier this year, yet it was allegedly disregarded by the authorities. Allegations suggest that Manikandan coerced her into retracting the complaint, prompting Kavitha to attempt suicide approximately a month ago. Following medical attention, she lodged a subsequent complaint on Thursday, resulting in the registration of a case at SRMC All Women Police Station, invoking pertinent sections of the Indian Penal Code.
A police official stated that Kavitha’s complaint detailed Manikandan’s purported acknowledgment of another woman as his spouse in a recent video. Upon confrontation, Manikandan purportedly justified his actions by claiming to have entered into the marriage for financial reasons, aiming to alleviate debts. Furthermore, the complaint alleges that Manikandan maintains relationships with several other women. Authorities have initiated a search for Manikandan, who is currently evading arrest.
