Bhopal: On Monday, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan inaugurated the first ever community toilet for transgender people in Mangalwara of Bhopal.
When asked about the significance of the community toilet Chouhan said, “The third gender is yet to get the respect it deserves. My government will ensure equal rights to them. The administration will also be directed to take stringent action against anti-social elements that defame the community.”
In order to empower the community and do more for them, Chouhan has said that a dedicated Panchayat would be set up in order to address the grievances of the community.
Claiming that the community has an important role to play in the prime minister’s Swacch Bharat Abhiyan, Chouhan stated that the transgender community would be given all the rights that are given to the regular citizens of the state.
Furthermore, he warned that anyone caught misusing the status of the transgender community, would be dealt with in a strict manner by the police.
In April of this year, Mysore openend India’s first transgender community toilet at the city bus stand. The design of the toilet was made in consultation with the transgender community.
