New Delhi: The students who have been demanding that the NEET and JEE exams be postponed considering the COVID-19 pandemic, have found an unusual ally in climate activist Geta Thunberg.
The 17-year-old Swedish climate activist on Tuesday took to Twitter to put her weight behind the widespread “postpone JEE NEET” movement. She said that it was “unfair” that the students were being asked to sit for the exams during the pandemic.
Expressing her support for the movement, she wrote, “It’s deeply unfair that students of India are asked to sit national exams during the Covid-19 pandemic and while millions have also been impacted by the extreme floods. I stand with their call to #PostponeJEE_NEETinCOVID”

Thunberg’s tweet received numerous responses from the youth worldwide. She herself just returned to school after a “gap year” that she took to create awareness about climate change.
Meanwhile, the hashtag MODIJI_POSTPONEJEENEET has been trending with many students demanding that the government take the prevailing situation into consideration and postpone the IIT and medical entrance exams. Many have taken to social media to express their concerns and grivances regarding the same.
However, so far, the Education Ministry has mainatined its stand and has not changed its mind about conducting the exams, which are scheduled to be held in the first half of September.
The Supreme Court even dismissed petitions on the matter observing that “life cannot be stopped”.
