Srinagar: Unknown persons pelted stones at a school bus in Shopian in South Kashmir, leaving two children injured, on May 2.
The police said that a class 2 student suffered severe head injury and has been admitted to Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences in Srinagar for further treatment. Another boy also received head injury, but was discharged after treatment.
The police said that the bus belonging to Rainbow International School was ferrying 50 children to the school, when stones were pelted at the bus at around 9.25 AM. An investigation has been launched to nab the perpetrators, the police added.
Leaders across the political spectrum condemned the cowardly act as soon as the incident was highlighted in the media. Twitter was abuzz with angry tweets about the incident.
In a tweet, the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti said, “Shocked and angered to hear of the attack on a school bus in Shopian. The perpetrators of this senseless and cowardly act will be brought to justice.”

The police chief of Jammu and Kashmir SP Vaid tweeted, “Complete madness how stone pelters are targeting young school children. These criminals will face the law.”
