New Delhi: Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, on Monday arrived at Tihar jail here to meet former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram and Karnataka legislator DK Shivakumar. While Chidambaram has been imprisoned since September 5 in INX Media related case, DKShi is facing money laundering charges.

This is the first time that Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh visited the jail premises to meet any party leader lodged there. Chidambaram and DKShi have both been lodged in Jail No. 7 of the Tihar jail, which is meant for economic offenders.

It is said that both Gandhi and Singh have reasserted party’s support to them. According to the sources, DKShi alleged that he has been victimized for not joining the BJP and helping the AICC treasurer Ahmed Patel to win from Gujarat to Rajya Sabha. Both the leaders listened to the jailed leaders and advised them to take the proper legal course to get a solution.

The Congress had accused the BJP-led central government of indulging in political vendetta.
