New Delhi: BJP Vice President and TV actress turned politician Smriti Irani will take on  Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi  from the prestigious Amethi Lok Sabha Constituency.

Rahul is the sitting MP from Amethi which is set to see an interesting triangular contest with AAP leader Kumar Vishwas also slated to contest from here as already announced by the party.

It has been learnt that the BJP Central Election Committee which met in New Delhi on Monday March 31 night  announced Smriti Irani’s candidature from Amethi. The party has decided to nominate Supreme Court advocate Ajay Agarwal  against Congress President Sonia Gandhi  in Rae Bareili.  Rumours were earlier doing the rounds that the BJP may pit its fire brand speaker Uma Bharati against Sonia. But as Uma Bharati wanted to contest from Jhansi, the party decided to  choose another candidate.

The BJP meet was attended by its top brass including  LK Advani, Rajnath Singh, Narendra Modi and Arun Jaitley.

Speaking to reporters later, Smriti Irani said  development has eluded Amethi in the name of the ‘family.’

She also claimed that under the dynamic leadership of Narendra Modi, the nation will see a change which it wishes to see.
