Agra: Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani’s cavalcade has been mentioned in the FIR registered in connection with an accident that led to a pile-up on the Yamuna Expressway last week.

The FIR states that the car which hit the motorcycle was from the HRD minister’s convoy.
Agra based doctor, Ramesh Nagar was killed on the spot and the two children riding pillion were injured on Saturday night, when Irani along with other BJP leaders were returning to New Delhi after attending a meeting of the party’s youth wing in Uttar Pradesh’s Vrindavan town near Mathura.
Abhishek Nagar, the deceased doctor’s son, filed the FIR which states that “A speeding car with registration number (DL 3C BA 5315), which was part of the cavalcade of HRD minister Smriti Irani, hit a motorbike from behind on which Dr Ramesh Nagar and two children were going for a wedding party.”
As per the FIR, the driver of the car fled after the accident.
The doctor’s family alleged that the children – Nagar’s daughter and nephew – could get proper medical attention only after seven hours. “My sister literally pleaded with folded hands to Smriti Irani for help, but she did not stop,” Abhishek said.
The minister in a series of tweets had told that she was fine.
“For all enquiring regarding my accident – I’m fine. Thank you for the concern and wishes,” she said.
“There was a pile-up of vehicles due to an accident on the expressway. Unfortunately, the police vehicle before mine and my car also crashed…Tried to help the injured who were lying on the road for quite some time and ensured they reach a hospital. Pray for their safety,” the minister had tweeted.
Meanwhile, an HRD ministry spokesperson on Monday denied that the minister’s convoy was involved in the accident. He further added that a private vehicle had hit the biker, who later on died, and it had nothing to do with HRD Minister’s cavalcade.
“HRD Minister directed SSP Mathura to arrange ambulance immediately so injured could be given medical treatment at the earliest,” the spokesperson said.
