Mumbai: Record swimmers lined up at Prongs Reef at Colaba, today morning, with braving strong winds and waves to participate in the six kilometers long annual navy day, which was an open sea swimming competition. This competition attracted participation from swimmers across the country.

Stringent qualifying norms of this niche event, which was conducted under the FINA – Federation Internationale de Nation rules, have ensured a high quality competition comparable with the best international level competitions.

As a result, the qualifying norms of the 450 swimmers who had filled forms, finally only could participate.  Representatives and timekeepers ensured a professional conduct of the event.  Every participant was required to have previous swimming experience as well as to be medically fit.

Competition, which was conducted in six different categories namely girls, boys, men, women, unisex, differently able and veteran, was keenly contested and has provided a unique platform to prepare Indian swimmers for International sea swimming events.
