Panaji: Two men accused of raping killing Scarlett Keeling have been acquitted by the court.

It may be recalled that eight years ago, 15-year-old British Scarlett Keeling’s body was found on a beach in Goa.

Two accused Samson D’Souza and Placido Carvalho were acquitted by the Goa Juvenile court on September 23 citing lack of evidence. Both beach shack workers had been accused of sexually assaulting Scarlett after giving her a cocktail of drugs and leaving her unconscious in the shallow waters.

Scarlett’s mother, Fiona MacKeown, who came to Goa hoping her daughter, would finally get justice was totally devastated.

Reacting on the court  judgment, she said, the Indian judiciary system has totally let her down and  insisted that her daughter was murdered and felt someone should have been held responsible.

Her body was traced in the early hours of February 19, 2008.
