New Delhi: The Supreme Court has on December 3, Tuesday rapped the Tamil Nadu Government which had filed a petition seeking a stay to the hydro power station proposed by   Karnataka at Mekedatu.

The Divisional Bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justice RM Lodha contended that  there was no need to  conduct a hearing  into the Cauvery River water distribution issue in haste when  an adhoc arrangement is already  in place of a Water Management Board,to decide on the quantity of water to be released.

The Supreme Court pulled up the legal counsel of the Tamil Nadu government by stating that it was not proper on the part of the state to rake up the issue  time and again.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has issued notices to the Centre and the Karnataka Government to reply within four weeks on the projects proposed at Mekedatu.
“No project can be completed in a couple of days. It will take years together. Therefore approach the Supreme Court in case any problem arises in the future,” the Court told the Tamil Nadu advocate.
