New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday lifted the travel restrictions imposed on Italian Ambassador Daniele Mancini from leaving the country in connection with the killing of two fishermen by two Italian marines off the Kerala coast last year. The apex court had on March 23 restrained Italian ambassador Mancini from leaving the country.

The apex court is also expected to take up the case of two Italian marines Massimiliano Latorre and Salvatore Girone, which had become a hot diplomatic and legal issue after Italy reneged on the undertaking given by its Ambassador Daniele Mancini on their return.
The matter is listed before the court of Chief Justice Altamas Kabir for hearing today.

The two Italian marines, Salvatore Latorre and Massimiliano Girone, charged with homicide for
killing two fishermen off the Kerala coast in February 2012 after mistaking them for pirates.

Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) was on Monday handed over the probe into killing of two Indian fishermen allegedly by Italian marines off the Kerala coast.
