New Delhi: Just a day before the counting of votes in the Karnataka Assembly elections, the Centre submitted to the Supreme Court, a Cauvery draft scheme.
Earlier, the apex court of the country slammed the Central government for not framing a Cauvery draft scheme and termed their delay as a contempt of court.
The draft scheme was handed to Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra by Union Water Resources Secretary U.P. Singh personally in the court. The copies of the same have been given to the states involved in the matter, viz Karnataka, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, to be scrutinized and check if it complies with the SC’s verdict of Feb 16 earlier this year.
The Centre has not yet come up with the nomenclature for the implementing authority of the scheme but has left it open, even to the concerned state if the SC wishes.
The next court hearing has been set for May 16.
