Sahitya Academy Awards 2020 declared

New Delhi: Sahitya Academy announced the annual Sahitya Academy Awards in 20 languages on Friday. Seven books of poetry, Four of the novel, five short stories, Two Plays, one of each memoir, and epic poetry have won Sahitya Academy Award 2020. Awards in Malayalam, Nepali, Odia, and Rajasthani languages will be announced later.

According to the press release, the awards recommended by distinguished jury members in 20 Indian languages, were approved by the executive board of Sahitya Academy, which met today under the presidentship of Dr. Chandrashekar Kambar.

Arundhati Subramanium (English), Harish Meenashru (Gujarati), Anamika (Hindi), R. S Bhaskar (Konkani), Irungbam devan (Manipuri), Rupachand Hansdah (Santali), Nikhileshwar (Telugu) won awards in poetry.

Nanda Khare (Marathi), Dr. Maheshchandra Sharma Goutham (Sanskrit), Imaiyam (Tamil), Hussain Ul Haque (Urdu) were awarded for novels.

For short stories Apurba Kumar Saikia (Assamese), Lt. Dharanidhar Owadi (Bodo), Hriday Koul Bharati (Kashmiri), Kamalkanth Jha (Maithili), Gurudev Singh Rupana (Panjabi), and for plays Gian Singh (Dogri), Jetho Lalwani (Sindhi), Sankar (Manishankar Mukhopadhyay (Bengali) has received memoir and M. Veerappa Moily (Kannada) for epic poetry respectively.

The award in the form of a casket containing an engraved copper- plaque, a shawl, and an amount of one lac towards cash content will be presented at the award presentation function which will be held at a later date.
