New Delhi: Former cricketer and Rajya Sabha MP Sachin Tendulkar donated lakhs for a noble cause after a school requested him for financial aid.

It is said that Tendulkar donated Rs 76 lakh to the Swarnamoyee Sasmal Sikhsa Niketan School under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) scheme.
According to sources, two years ago, a staff of the school in West Midnapore district of West Bengal had written to Tendulkar seeking financial help. The school is 50-year-old and has about 900 students.
The fund was handed over to the school earlier this year. The construction of a library, a laboratory and a common room for girls is now in progress.
The principal of the school Uttamkumar Mohanty said that he along with the school has no words to express gratitude.
He also said that the school is planning to invite the star cricketer for inaugurating the newly built infrastructure.
