New Delhi: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has stated that Congress chief Rahul Gandhi would be the next prime minister of the country considering the present scenario. Assuring that the Congress is united, Singh said that the party would back its chief as the prime ministerial candidate of the joint opposition alliance all the way.
Opposition parties led by the Congress, are going all out to build up an alliance prior to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, in order to defeat the BJP. However, there might already be cracks in the foundation of the alliance, as the Congress wants to field Rahul Gandhi as the opposition’s prime ministerial candidate while NCP chief Sharad Pawar is of the opinion that any party in the alliance with a maximum number of seats can stake its claim to the PM’s post.
Prior to this, Congress General Secretary In-charge for Maharastra, Maliikarjun Kharge also declared Rahul Gandhi as his choice for PM candidature.
