Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded to remarks made by Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge regarding the revocation of special status to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 of the Constitution.

Kharge, speaking at a political event in Jaipur, Rajasthan, dismissed the relevance of discussing the scrapping of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, mistakenly referring to Article 371 instead of Article 370, which the Congress later clarified as a slip of the tongue.

In response, PM Modi questioned Kharge’s stance, asking why he deemed the Jammu and Kashmir issue irrelevant.

Addressing a rally in Bihar’s Nawada, PM Modi expressed dismay over Kharge’s comments, emphasizing the integral status of Jammu and Kashmir within India. He highlighted the sacrifices made by brave individuals from Bihar and Rajasthan in defending the region.

PM Modi condemned Kharge’s remarks, equating them to the divisive rhetoric of certain groups, and the crowd responded with disapproval.

The term “tukde-tukde gang,” often used by right-wing parties to criticize leftist groups, was invoked by PM Modi, linking it to Kharge’s comments.

Home Minister Amit Shah also denounced Kharge’s statement, reaffirming Jammu and Kashmir’s integral status and the rights of all Indian citizens over the region.

In Nawada, where PM Modi held the rally, the BJP has nominated Vivek Thakur, the party’s Rajya Sabha MP and son of former Union Minister CP Thakur, as its candidate for the upcoming polls.

The first phase of polling for Nawada, Gaya, Aurangabad, and Jamui Lok Sabha constituencies is scheduled for April 19, as part of the National Democratic Alliance’s seat-sharing arrangement in Bihar.
