Uttar Pradesh: Two incidents of attack on dalits were reported a day after PM Narendra Modi appealed people not to target the members of the backward community.

In one incident, a 22-year-old Dalit man, accused of theft, was beaten to death by a mob in Lakhimpur, Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, August 10.
According to sources, the Dalit, who was from a poor family, was beaten to death by a mob. It is also said that his dead body was abandoned on the road after he was paraded naked on the streets by the irate mob.
A case has been registered under the SC/ST Act and two people have been arrested. The police has denied any caste-based violence and said that the body was not dumped along the roadside.
In another incident reported at Sambhal district, a temple priest attacked a Dalit man and his daughter.
Sources said, the 13-year-old girl was stopped from drinking water from a handpump in the temple premises by the priest as she was a Dalit.
